Manufacturing and Quality

Weed Instrument is headquartered in Round Rock (a suburb of Austin), Texas. The company operates from a purpose built 50,000 sq. ft (4,600 sq. m) facility.

In addition to being ISO 9001:2000 registered, we are compliant with the 10CFR50 Appendix B, 10CFR21, ANSI N45.2, ASME NQA-1, ASME NCA3800, CSA Can3-Z299.1 and AS 9100 quality standards.

We maintain an on-site, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable Metrology Laboratory that provides comparison temperature calibrations from -196°C to 700°C (-320°F to 1292°F) on the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) for temperature sensors and instrumentation. We can also perform relative calibrations at the boiling point of liquid nitrogen. The Laboratory is equipped with fluidized baths, tube furnaces, standard platinum resistance thermometers and standard thermocouples. Time response testing is performed in full compliance with ASTM E-644. Our test reports are comprehensive and include, when required, "as found" and "as left" data.

Many of our processes are proprietary and are geared to assure that from initial concept to finished product, the integrity of the design is maintained.

Our New Product Development (NPD) process has six specific phases. Each phase consists of a set of unique activities related to the development process. These phases and activities are designed to ensure that (a) the development is accomplished in a logical progression, (b) the intermediate development results remain on target and (c) the final design output meets all product specifications and is ready for manufacture and sale. At the end of each phase there is a formal Tollgate Review which has to be passed prior to proceeding to the next phase.

Each of our finely tuned manufacturing cells is configured to provide our customers with the highest quality products, while maintaining lead times that are among the shortest in our industry. We extensively use Kaizens to drive continuous improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. The cutting-edge manufacturing principles we employ include 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work and Kanban.

Stringent quality control is implemented at every stage. All Weed Instrument associates are encouraged to stop their process if they believe a potential quality problem may exist. We maintain an intensive training program to insure our associates are well versed in the latest technologies, equipment and problem-solving tools.

With a relentless focus on quality and a dedication to lean manufacturing we've become a preferred partner for numerous global OEMs and end users because we always strive to exceed our customers' expectations. At Weed Instrument, we have the experience, technology and resources to meet and exceed your needs on time, every time.
